Proof of Play Explained: What It Is and Why It Matters

By YAXI TV Editorial Team · · Updated · 9 min read

In the world of DOOH advertising, trust is everything. Advertisers need to know that their ads actually appeared on the screens they paid for. Proof of Play (POP) is the technology standard that makes this accountability possible.

What Is Proof of Play?

Proof of Play is an automated log entry generated each time an ad or piece of content is displayed on a digital signage screen. Each POP record captures: the screen identifier, the content or ad identifier, the timestamp of playback start and end, the duration displayed, and optionally a cryptographic signature for tamper-proof verification.

Why Advertisers Care

Without POP, advertisers must trust that their ads ran as booked. With POP, every impression is independently verifiable. This shifts DOOH from a "trust us" model to an auditable, accountable one — more like digital advertising than traditional out-of-home.

How YAXI TV Implements POP

YAXI TV's player devices generate cryptographically signed POP records for every ad impression. Records are transmitted to the cloud in near-real-time, reconciled against ad decision logs, and made available for export in CSV format. Records are retained for 12+ months.
