Common Mistakes Businesses Make With In-Store TV Content

Most businesses that put screens in their venues make the same predictable mistakes. This guide identifies the most common ones — and explains exactly how to fix them.
Too Many Ads
Running all-advertising playlists trains your audience to ignore the screen. Limit ad content to 20–30% of total programming and fill the rest with entertainment and informational content. Ads surrounded by engaging content perform significantly better than ad-only loops.
Playlists That Are Too Long
A playlist with 50 items means each piece of content gets very little screen time. Viewers rarely watch long enough to see the full loop. Aim for 8 to 15 items per playlist with a total loop duration of 3 to 8 minutes.
Stale, Outdated Content
Regular customers stop noticing screens that show the same promotions week after week. Schedule content updates at least every two weeks and replace seasonal or time-sensitive items promptly.
No Preview on Actual Screen
Always preview your playlist on the actual screen before committing. Content that looks fine on a laptop can look very different on a 55-inch display viewed from across the room.
