How Scheduling, Playlists, and Ad Breaks Work in Digital Signage
By YAXI TV Editorial Team · · Updated · 8 min read
Understanding how playlists, scheduling rules, and ad breaks interact is essential to running an effective digital signage operation. This guide explains the building blocks and how to use them to build a programming strategy that serves your audience and maximizes revenue.
Playlists
A playlist is an ordered sequence of content items — images, videos, webpages, or live feeds — that loop continuously on a screen. Best practice is 8–15 items per playlist, with a total loop duration of 3–8 minutes, ensuring each item gets sufficient exposure without becoming repetitive.
Scheduling and Dayparting
Schedule rules let you assign different playlists to different time windows. YAXI TV supports day-of-week and time-of-day rules, letting you show breakfast content in the morning, lunch specials at noon, and evening entertainment after 5pm — all on the same screen without manual intervention.
Ad Breaks
Ad breaks are configurable slots within your programming loop where the system inserts programmatic or direct-sold ads. The frequency and length of ad breaks can be tuned to balance revenue maximization with audience experience. Most venues run 1–2 ad breaks per 5 minutes of content.
